A fixed term position for Health Research Analyst

Purpose of the appointment: To provide high quality, rapid analysis of health research. Three months’ initial contract will include a training component.

Duration: Three months from January 2013. The position is offered with a view to a possible long term position after completion.

Remuneration: The full time salary (i.e. 40 hours per week) for this position is in the range £25,000 to £33,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience. The salary will be paid monthly.

Based at 10 Fitzroy square with access to usual office facilities (computer, desk supplied). Remote working from home after an induction period and/or part time options are possible.

Hours of work
20-40 hours per week (negotiable).

Reports to the Health Research Analyst Manager

Short description
Health research analysts work in a team with other members of the science unit to produce high quality, rapid analysis of health research.  The position requires an understanding of study design, appraisal and the principles of evidence-based practice.  An ability to interpret and represent complex information simply and to balance competing evidence is critical. Clinical experience is not necessary.

This position is a training post and covers the following areas of responsibility:
●    Reviewing and appraising research (scientific news reports, research articles, systematic reviews and guidelines)
●    Extracting quantitative and qualitative data from research (and representation of this data visually, textually and verbally)
●    Interpreting and communicating conclusions from research information in the context of the user of evidence

Applicants should have a health-related degree and post degree experience. A postgraduate qualification in a scientific, pharmacy or medical field (PhD or MSc/ MPH) and specific experience in health services research or design, evaluation and interpretation of research are desirable.  

An understanding of modelling approaches in healthcare would be an advantage. The position requires the ability to learn quickly in new areas. An ability to interpret and represent complex information simply and to balance competing evidence is critical. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential as are excellent communication skills.
