Part time Editorial Assistant

Purpose of the appointment: The Editorial Assistant works closely with the Information Services Manager, the Information team and the Health Research team to manage the Evidence-based Journals and to provide document supply for other projects as necessary. Versatility is expected as documents will need to be sourced from a range of libraries and online resources, and ad-hoc tasks will be requested from time to time.

Key accountabilities

1. Manage the day-to-day running of the Evidence-based Journals

  • To liaise, mostly by email, with academic editors, expert commentators and publishers
  • To liaise with the client and attend project and contract review meetings
  • To find and commission commentators and peer reviewers
  • To proofread and edit expert commentaries
  • To maintain and update content management databases and spreadsheets, including the use of the software ScholarOne

2. Manage document supply for the whole of Bazian

  • To source and collect full texts of required articles, both from online sources and from regular (once or twice a week) visits to libraries and repositories (e.g. The British Library, The Royal Society of Medicine)
  • To maintain and update bibliographic software, including the use of the software Reference Manager

3. Other administrative duties

  • To provide administrative assistance for other evidence products at Bazian
  • To provide general administrative and editorial support to the Information Services Manager and the wider Bazian team as necessary


Duration: 12 months initially, with the possibility for renewal. There is a one month probationary period.

Salary range: £22-25k (pro-rata)

Location: Bazian Offices, currently at 10 Fitzroy Square and moving to Canary Wharf at the beginning of July 2013

Hours of work: 4 days per week
